Certified Nursing Assistant Program

Become a CNA and an efficient member of a health care team. Take temperatures and pulse, assist with patient hygiene, make beds and chart patient information, among other things. Combines 60 hours of theory with 110 hours of clinical practice at a local nursing facility. Prepare for the Red Cross exam. Graduate job-ready, with a resume and cover letter. Course fee: $1,200

Arboriculture Training

Learn tree care, biology and anatomy, worker safety and best practices in tree management. This class provides the path for career advancement for arborists or landscape professionals. Avid gardeners who want to expand their knowledge are welcome. Participants who complete the course will be encouraged to take the certification exam through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Students are required to purchase the current Arborists’ Certification Study Guide, (International Society of Arboriculture, 2010) before the first class session. Click here to purchase this study guide. Introduction to Digital Media Arts

In our ever-advancing culture of technology, competitive skills in visual and digital arts are in higher demand than ever. Learn a broad range of visual mediums in these introductory courses. Apply the elements and principles of art and design to multiple occupational areas of study. Participate in hands-on trainings through project based learning with an option to develop a portfolio of your work. no previous design experience needed to take these classes.

Level 1

Create and manipulated digital images, photographs, designs typography, utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. 12 sessions

Spanish for Educators and Staff

Continuing Spanish for beginners and low intermediates. For those who need to communicate with Spanish-speaking members of the school population. Professional development units and salary credits available for NVUSD employees. $23 material fee payable to the instructor (for Spanish is Fun book). 16 & 14 sessions

CPR for Health Professionals

This is an American Medical Association certified course for Healthcare Professionals in Basic Life Support training. It reinforces the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, using an AED and the role of each procedure for assessing an emergency. 2 & 1 sessions

Medical Office

Learn the basic procedures and skills that are required of a medical office worker. The Medical Office Program includes instructor-led and online classes taken over the course of a school year. Learn to determine which data sources to use for collecting information, assess data quality, clean data to make it useful, and communicate the results of an analysis. Instructional Assistant - No Child Left Behind

Train to work as an Instructional Assistant in the Napa Valley Unified School District. Understand the roles and responsibilities required to assist classroom instructors. Learn about disability awareness and autism, health information, positive communication and behavioral support, instruction and classroom procedures for a positive environment. Certificate is awarded after successfully completing the class. Includes Instructional Assistant exam on the last day of class. Class is taught in English. 8th grade proficiency in math and reading is required.  Pre-registration is required for the class. 9 weeks

Instructional Assistant Exam - No Child Left Behind

This exam is a requirement for employment in the Napa Valley Unified School district. Participants must pre-register.

Metro Ed charges an annual student fee of $30.
Module 1 & 2 classes are semi-independent classes. Face-to-face meetings are held at Napa Valley Adult Education.

Pharmacy Technician $2895

Assist the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling, inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment and coordinating billing. This course prepares students for eligibility to register with the State Board of Pharmacy. 182 hours of instruction (this includes 42 hours online) plus 120 externship hours. Clincial Medical Assistant $2895

Assist the physician with procedures, caring for patients, performing simple laboratory tests and administering medications working in a physician’s office or clinical setting. 134 hours of instruction (this includes 42 hours online) plus 160 externship hours. Phlebotomy Technician $2895

Draw blood from patients in a hospital, clinical laboratory, doctor’s office or clinic. This course prepares students to be eligible to take the CA State Certified Phlebotomy Technician I examination. 48 hours of instruction plus 40 externship hours.

Phlebotomy for the Medical Professional $525

Program provides instruction in drawing blood for medical assistants, emergency medical technicians, vocational nurses, registered nurses and physicians who use or plan to use phlebotomy skills within the scope of their work. 16 hours of instruction.

Veterinary Assistant $1199

Assist the Veterinarian or the Veterinary Technician in their daily tasks. Learn basic animal care – examine pets for signs of illness, disease, or injury. Learn workplace safety and hygiene and how to sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment used in laboratories, animal hospitals and clinics. 35 hours of instruction and 24 student-initiated clinical externship hours.

EKG Technician $1199

Participants learn to perform EKG testing, coordinate Holter monitoring and perform stress tests in a hospital laboratory, doctor’s office or clinic. 70 hours of instruction.
